When a VHS, SVHS, Video 8, Hi 8, Digital 8 or audio cassette is played in a home type consumer quality player and recorded onto similar format there are significant losses. It may not be so apparent the first time, however if you take the second-generation tape and transfer it again it is obvious that your memories are fading away. Even if you use consumer quality recorders and transfer to a consumer quality DVD or CD there will still be loss.
